Billy Ray Cyrus and his WILD Liberty Ball performance. Who was the real star of the show the night of the inauguration?
Monday morning quarter backs, Low IQ friends, and why we should protect people when their down bad. Not kick them to the curb.
For optics, this article is best read while minding your own business.
It’s easy to ridicule what’s right in front of us, but I’m a firm believer that theres two sides to every story. I also believe the truth is somewhere in between, and well, that part.. It’s left up to fate what you wanna believe. That’s the joy of making your bed and laying in it, you make a choice and you live with it.
What we saw the night of the 2025 inauguration at the Liberty Ball was the fate of many. The machine as I call it(life), happen to suck up one of our favs, chew him up, and regurgitate him as unrecognizable as we remember him. The once king, writer, singer, actor, songwriter, and producer of 53 studio albums and 16 singles, Hollywood star Billy Ray Cyrus absolute ate shit during his ship wreck performance at the Liberty Ball.
Typo; 16 studio albums, and 53 singles. Figured since our lives make so much sense one minute and the next were left in dire straights, might as well showcase my dyslexia.
Some saying Cyrus may want to take his horse back to the old town road, or back to “the old folks home.”
“You heard it here first, folks” Andrew Santino voice disguised as Bobby Lee
Oof.
I’d bet Hannah Montana felt that one.
Moments after Cyrus had arrived on stage, I started scratching my head and shit posting my thoughts. This was the Liberty Ball, and luckily the star was obviously impaired. There was no way he’d be the bell of the ball tonight but with an gigantic ego and vague memories of the days when he was popular, nothing could stop him now. He’d been waiting for this moment and you could feel it, despite the performance itself.
He’s still a living human being.
I’ve seen karaoke nights at midget wrestling do a better performance than Cyrus, no doubt about it.
If anyone was wondering where the LA fires started, they started when he stepped on stage. Sorry Cyrus, I have to get my kicks in where I can.
Look at the bigger picture. I’ll bring it full circle here in a minute.
I posted on my threads account because I wanted the world to know I was first to weigh in on this shit show. As a big fan of Cyrus, more importantly, as an even bigger fan of Miley Cyrus, I felt a kinship to this poor bastard that couldn’t be ignored. When I was young, I used printer paper to print out my favorite Hannah Montana pictures and used some sticky tack to adhere the pictures to my wall. I was pretty obsessed with her but she was great, the whole cast was! I remember thinking how cool their family seemed. It was awe inspiring to me as a kid because part of me saw Billy Ray as a role model.
Look at this! This must of fell in and around 2008 for the Hannah Montana cast.
Wicked bro. I think these outfits are coming back.. I hope not.
Representatives of the family and other random people that think someone values their opinion (myself included, cha cha) pleading with the estranged Billy Ray to “seek help,” and close family members stating they are “worried” about him. Of course, “another Monday morning quarterback” as my close friend Will would say. Alluding to the people that show up after the work has been done, after the curtain has came to a close, long after any real choices need to be made. They arrive just in time to placate any willing victims already produced by the machine.
These people, the tabloids, the reports, hell, even us writers.
We have the power to create narrative, no matter how far fetched, no matter if the story holds merit, if any. It’s the power to use our words to create a picture, wether it be an act of heroism for Cyrus stepping out onto that stage, or an act of stupidity that may have sunk his already trouble recent years.
But when the curtain comes to a close, you should ask yourself who are we? It’s something we don’t consider, not due to malice but due to ignorance. We are misinformed and 2025 we have arrived at the scariest part of our history. Algorithms have ruled us for years and the long term implications are starting to burst at the seems. We are insecure to the point of not leaving our homes. We lack decisiveness because of TO much information, ah yes. We are rotting our brains day by day and it’s lasting and lingering affects have left major holes in our societal framework.
We have forgotten how to stand on our own two feet. With confidence, lacking rigor and assertiveness, with only remnants of what we could be in comparison to all that we see.
Perhaps Cyrus made a mess of himself, but who put him up to it? Why are they not in the hot seat? What about all the people showing up in the interviews following the ball, where have these “Monday morning quarterbacks been?” If someone needs help now, they’ve needed the help. It’s not okay that we wait for things to go wrong to urge our people to protect themselves against addictions, set backs, and just the possibility that things aren’t what they once were. Thats a scary thought in itself.
When Will Smith smacked the shit out of Chris Rock all those years ago, what would make a deranged person think for even a second that was appropriate? What we didn’t see was behind the curtains. It’s up to to rejoice in the moments of triumph and thrill in our challenges. Our fate is simply a build up of choices, it’s not serendipitous.
I considered my premise for this write and felt I should just let it flow. That’s what we have to remember most about people in their worst moments. Not just what Billy Ray, who was notably an icon for so many years and for so many of us. He had a weak moment, and perhaps may have many more. We all have low moments and it’s easy to believe that one bad choice evidently becomes who we are. It’s thread into our identity but that’s not true. It’s just a low moment, a challenging time, a bad choice.
Many years ago now, I had a falling out with a close friend who ended up going his own way after one of my low moments. I accepted his choice and carried on with my life. Sometime down the road I heard from one of our mutual friends that he was still talking shit about me. I found it funny to see so many years later someone being that ignorant.
Such and such was telling me “you finally showed him your true colors.”
I like when people say that term “true colors” and I’m sure people have said that about you too at some point. As if there isn’t any nuance to our lives. It’s just that.
Talk about a low IQ response for someone going through a challenging time. I immediately felt bad just knowing what I knew. This was someone I was really close with and in the worst way, I wanted to be offended. I thought if I could be mad, I wouldn’t feel that sense of pity for someone who should of known me better. Someone who should of read between the lines and made the choice not to. They accepted that my bad choice was woven into my future and history and that they had all the answers.
It was his ignorance that left him feeling that way. He made his choice in what he wanted to believe. I’d bet good money that same idiot, knowing that was just a weak moment is still beating his drum and banding together with his friends.
More like groupies or cronies.
One of my favorite quotes by Rick Rigsby, who to this day is the man by the way. He said during his Cal Maritime University commencement speech:
“Pride is the burden of a foolish man. Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity.”
To which he repeated a second time because one time just wasn’t good enough to make the point more salient.
Watch it here.
Single handedly my favorite speech’s of all time. I even re watch it every so often as a refresher for perspective and wisdom.
What I wanna get across to you is a couple things.
Believe in your choices and ride them to the very end. Understand sometimes new information will allow you to CHANGE YOUR MIND.
Ignorance will try to suck you in. Have courage to stand alone if it’s necessary.
Everything you see is simply not true.
Geniuses like me are creating a narrative of what we want YOU to see.
Be kinder to people. We make bad choices but it doesn’t mean we are bad people. The same rule applies to you.
Lastly, give Billy Ray a chance. He’s just living his life. We don’t need anymore Monday morning quarterbacks. You know why you hate him now, but remember why you loved him because that’s more important.
Got you Billy Ray
🤜🤛👏👏👏👏
